I am an artist because I love the art journey. There is a freedom and a joy in the process of creating art that is hard to find elsewhere. It is also a daily exertion of effort and hope.
I was born and raised in the suburbs of New York City where dual interests in art and music began.
Earlier in my art life, I focused mainly on painting representational watercolors. I enjoyed the challenge of creating very detailed images and still do. The more details I painted, the more I felt that I had succeeded in expressing the beauty of the subject and exploring its mysteries.
Then I began to look for a way to let a little fresh air into my studio to let more of myself peek through. That’s when I started creating mixed media collages.
This has led to several bodies of work using more experimental techniques- multi layered acrylic collages that reveal long-forgotten names or words, paper weavings made from the torn or cut strips of older paintings, and newer works that are just beginning to take shape. Details matter in this collage world too, expressing the significance of seemingly useless fragments and scraps. Nothing is wasted!
My hope is that others would respond by coming closer and finding something there that encourages or refreshes.
Most days I am in my home art studio in Colorado, drinking endless cups of tea! Other interests: spending time with my husband Brad, two grown up kids and doggie Moose, connecting with family and friends, watching vintage films with yarn in hand, checking out clouds and leaves, playing piano, reading.
Along with Brad, we co-founded Heartworks Inc. and Melting Stone Music where we have recorded and produced several original music CD's.
I have released two original piano solo CD's, Water Song & Colors Dance.
B.A. in History and second field in Studio Art at the University at Albany, NY. I also have freelanced in the licensed greeting card world as an artist and designer.
